This year I have a new position as the 1st grade Reading Interventionist. We have started the year off showing our many colors. We are incorporating the 7 Habits while working on our reading. The students are working on filling their crayon boxes. Each time they get through a color from the rainbow words (sight words) they get to add that color of crayon to their crayon box. We are off to a colorful start. Keep up the great work!!!

Fiesta
Today our school had a great time celebrating Fiesta! We started the day with an assembly and performed the Mexican Hat Dance. Then we did the Fiesta version of the Chicken Dance! To finish off the day, the kids participated in our very own Battle of Flowers Parade.
PBL kickoff - Taxidermist visit
To begin our PBL (project based learning) about animals we were lucky to have a taxidermist visit first grade. He shared basic knowledge of animals and explained his profession. The kids were really excited and loved feeling the different animal skins.

We have been discussing Martin Luther King. They are beginning to understand the importance of equality. The students got to come up with their own dream after discussing Martin's dream. We have also been working on the long e "ee" and "ea". In math we have been looking closely at duration as well as time to the hour and half hour. For reading we have been investigating characters (their feelings and actions) from stories that we have been reading.
